Lakewood National is a gated golf community in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, built around 36 holes of Arnold Palmer-designed championship golf and a resort-style club lifestyle. Unlike many private golf communities where club membership is purchased separately, Lakewood National was designed as a bundled golf community, making golf and club amenities a central part of homeownership.
Located in the northeastern portion of Lakewood Ranch, Lakewood National offers everything from lower-maintenance condos to larger single-family homes, making it one of the more diverse golf communities in the area.
For buyers who want golf, resort amenities and an active social environment built directly into where they live, Lakewood National deserves serious consideration.

There are several golf communities throughout Lakewood Ranch, but Lakewood National occupies a distinct position in the market.
The biggest difference is bundled golf.
Rather than buying a home and then separately deciding whether to join an outside private club, Lakewood National integrates the golf and club lifestyle into the community itself. The community includes two 18-hole Arnold Palmer-designed golf courses, Commander and Piper, along with a large collection of resort amenities.
That makes Lakewood National particularly attractive to buyers who know golf will be a significant part of their Florida lifestyle.
It also means buyers need to evaluate a Lakewood National purchase differently from a traditional Lakewood Ranch neighborhood. The purchase price is only part of the equation—you should understand the HOA structure, golf-related fees, CDD assessment and what’s included with your particular property.
One of Lakewood National’s strengths is the range of housing options.
Terrace condominiums generally represent the most affordable entry point into Lakewood National.
These are particularly attractive to seasonal residents, second-home buyers and buyers who want the club lifestyle without maintaining a larger single-family property.
Many units offer views overlooking the golf course, lakes or preserve areas.
Verandas provide more space than the terrace condos and typically include features such as a garage and screened outdoor living areas.
For buyers who like the lock-and-leave convenience of a condo but want something that feels closer to a traditional home, the verandas can be a good middle ground.
Coach homes provide larger floor plans while maintaining a relatively low-maintenance lifestyle.
These can appeal to buyers who want additional living space, garages and larger lanais without moving all the way into a detached single-family home.
Lakewood National also includes detached single-family residences.
These homes generally provide more privacy, larger living spaces and greater outdoor-living opportunities. Depending on the property, buyers may find private pools, expansive lanais and golf, lake or preserve views.
Because Lakewood National is now primarily a resale community, the condition, upgrades, location and view of individual homes can vary significantly.
Lakewood National has a relatively broad resale market because of its variety of property types.
At the lower end, condominium inventory can sometimes be found in the $200,000s and $300,000s, while larger coach homes and detached residences can command substantially higher prices depending on size, condition, upgrades, private pools and lot/view premiums.
Current listings retrieved in August 2026, for example, include two-bedroom terrace condos around 1,100–1,150 square feet listed from approximately the mid-$200,000s into the low-$300,000s.
I would pay particular attention to:
Two properties with similar square footage can therefore have meaningfully different values.
Golf is the centerpiece of the community.
Lakewood National features 36 holes designed by Arnold Palmer Design, giving residents two distinct 18-hole golf experiences. The community’s own amenity information confirms the 36-hole golf offering.
Commander is known for its expansive layout and championship-style golf experience.
Piper provides a second full 18-hole course within the same community, giving golfers variety without leaving Lakewood National.
For serious golfers, having two courses is a meaningful advantage. Instead of buying into a community built around a single 18-hole course, residents have 36 holes available within their home community.
Lakewood National operates as a bundled-golf community, but buyers should verify the current membership structure, transfer requirements, dues and privileges associated with the specific property they are considering.
This is something I would confirm during the purchase process rather than relying on an old listing description or an outdated online fee sheet.
Lakewood National is much more than a golf course community.
The community’s amenity package includes:
The fitness center also offers group fitness programming and professional fitness services.
This combination is what gives Lakewood National its resort atmosphere. A resident can play golf in the morning, spend the afternoon at the pool or spa and meet friends for dinner without leaving the community.
This is one of the most important sections for prospective buyers.
Lakewood National is not a community where I recommend comparing homes based solely on purchase price.
Depending on the type of property you purchase, there can be several recurring costs associated with ownership, potentially including:
HOA or condominium fees + golf/club-related costs + CDD assessment + other community assessments or charges.
The exact amount can vary considerably by property type and can change over time.
Coverage varies by neighborhood and property type. Depending on the residence, fees may contribute toward items such as common-area maintenance, landscaping, community operations, security and certain exterior maintenance.
Condominium ownership can have a different fee structure from single-family ownership.
Yes.
The Community Development District assessment is generally collected through the property-tax bill and helps fund community infrastructure.
Buyers should review the actual tax bill for the property they are considering rather than applying a generic CDD number to every Lakewood National home.
Before making an offer, I recommend calculating the property’s true monthly ownership cost, including:
Mortgage + property taxes + homeowners insurance + HOA/condo fees + golf/community fees + CDD
This is particularly important when comparing a Lakewood National condo with a similarly priced home elsewhere in Lakewood Ranch.
A $300,000 property with substantial lifestyle amenities and recurring fees is financially different from a $300,000 property with a basic HOA.
Lakewood National is located in the northeastern portion of Lakewood Ranch, with convenient access to State Road 70and the growing eastern side of the community.
The location provides relatively easy access to everyday shopping and services while still giving residents the quieter feel of a gated golf community.
Lakewood Ranch itself offers more than 300 shops and restaurants, three major town centers, neighborhood shopping plazas, healthcare, parks and more than 150 miles of trails.
Residents can also reach destinations such as:
Lakewood Ranch Main Street — shopping, dining and entertainment
Waterside Place — restaurants, events and waterfront activities
University Town Center (UTC) — major shopping and dining district
Downtown Sarasota — restaurants, arts and cultural attractions
Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport
Gulf Coast beaches
For buyers relocating from outside Florida, this is an important distinction: Lakewood National feels resort-oriented when you’re inside the gates, but you’re still part of the much larger Lakewood Ranch community.
Lakewood National is not an age-restricted community, so school zoning can matter to buyers with children.
Lakewood Ranch School assignments are based on the property’s address and can change as the area grows. Buyers should verify current assignments directly with the appropriate school district before purchasing rather than relying solely on an MLS listing or real estate website.
Lakewood Ranch as a whole includes numerous public, private and preschool options.
Lakewood National can be an excellent fit—but I wouldn’t recommend it to every Lakewood Ranch buyer.
Love golf.
This is the obvious one. You’re buying into a community where golf is a fundamental part of the lifestyle.
Want resort amenities at home.
Pool, dining, fitness, spa, racquet sports and social activities are all available within the gates.
Prefer an active community.
Lakewood National is well suited to buyers who want opportunities to meet people and participate in activities.
Want a seasonal or second home.
The condominium and maintenance-oriented options can be particularly appealing to buyers who won’t live in Florida year-round.
Want multiple property types to choose from.
You don’t necessarily need a large budget or a detached home to access the Lakewood National lifestyle.
Don’t compare Lakewood National with another community using purchase price alone. Compare total cost of ownership.
If you have no interest in golf, there may be other Lakewood Ranch communities where your HOA dollars align more closely with the amenities you’ll actually use.
Because Lakewood National is primarily a resale community, two otherwise similar properties may have very different interiors, views and levels of updating.
For any Florida condominium purchase, I recommend reviewing the association documents, budgets, reserves, insurance information and applicable assessments as part of your due diligence.
For detached homes and many condos, golf, water and preserve views can significantly affect desirability and resale.
This is where buyers frequently need help.
Both offer golf and extensive resort amenities, but they’re different experiences.
Lakewood National is an established bundled-golf community with 36 holes and a large resale market.
Esplanade at Azario is newer and offers a different housing mix and club environment.
These should not be confused.
Lakewood National has its own golf club and bundled-golf structure.
Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club is a separate private club. Its current club offering includes 72 holes across four courses, three clubhouses, fitness, pools, tennis, pickleball, dining and other amenities. Membership is available separately and is not limited to residents of a particular Lakewood Ranch village.
These communities appeal to very different priorities.
Lakewood National: golf-centric, established and primarily resale.
Lorraine Lakes: newer residential community focused more broadly on resort-style amenities rather than making golf the centerpiece of ownership.
